Car Travel and Weather

Weather Channel Twisters OKI’m traveling around in my car. I’m not staying in motels, or at least I don’t plan on staying in any. I’ve got my tent. I’ve got pillows and a blanket if I want to sleep in my car. I’m trying to meet some new Couchsurfing friends. I have some people I plan on seeing and I hope they will put me up. In theory, no motels. Is that good or bad? At this point, I’m not sure. It’s still early. But, as I sit in a McDonald’s so that I can have a $1 soft drink with unlimited refills and free wi-fi, I’m realizing just how much I’m at the mercy of the natural elements. Tornadoes are moving through Oklahoma City and headed for Tulsa. The Weather Channel’s lead story is about Twisters in OK and KS and their moving map shows storms coming through where I plan on staying tonight. Not a comforting thought. How do I feel about that? Helpless. The again, I feel rather helpless when the tornado sirens go off when I’m at home. I know there’s not a lot I can do about my circumstances, even when I’m at home. I used to have a basement, but I sold that house years ago. We used to have a large public tornado shelter close to out home, but not any longer. But, when I’m in my car, I’m really exposed. To everything. Weather is simply on the other side of the windshield. I don’t really enjoy that, but it comes with the territory. C’est la vie.
