Hike to Fort Bowie AZ

Trail to Fort Bowie AZRattlesnake SignFort Bowie was a significant location during the wars with the Apache Indians in the 1800′s. The fort was built to help the mail and the stagecoaches, along with settlers bound for the west, to traverse the Apache Indian lands. Apaches wanted tribute. Let’s face it, it was their land. However, the American government saw them as something not to be taken seriously. Until, of course, a few people died crossing the lands the Apaches had lived on for centuries. Wikipedia has a good write-up on Fort Bower located here. As for more images, check Google Images located here and Flickr which is located here. Oh, yeah, did I mention Arizona has a rattlesnake problem and it was a 3+ mile hike over some terrain that could be a little taxing to get to see the fort?
