Me and Frank – Eischens

Eischen’s is an infamous saloon in Okarche, OK. Frank, Ethel and I took our motorbikes and road the thirty miles from Oklahoma City to Okarche. Eischen’s is supposed to be the oldest bar in Oklahoma. According to the owner, Eischen’s Saloon was established in 1896 by Peter Eischen in the Indian Territory and was opened until statehood and prohibition. Today, the menu is pretty simple. You can get fried chicken, okra, bread, pickles, onions. If you want something other than that to eat, you’ll have to go somewhere else. You can get lots of different things to drink, but beer is the house specialty. If you stay late, like very late, you can participate in a rowdy time. The place really is a bar. The significance of Eischen’s is that many, many people swear it has the best fried chicken in the whole world. I don’t believe that, but I will say that the experience is well worth a thirty mile drive. When you leave you can grab a t-shirt that reads: Eischen’s – Hottest Chicken and Coldest Beer in Oklahoma. Now that I’ll agree with. 09/2009
