Egg Tarts – Macau

These are egg tarts. They are available in many places in SE Asia. They are especially prominent in Macau. They are, also, especially good in Macau. I had one. Or more. They really are good. Will they ever replace really good French flan as my favorite form of custard or custard-like substance? No.

Me at Macau Tower

This is me at the Macau Tower. Notice that there appears to be a cloud behind me. That’s because there is a cloud behind me. The tower is said to be the tallest structure in Macau at almost 1,000 feet. It is also the place where a person can bungee jump at the world’s highest bungee jumping platform. Not that I wanted to bungee jump a little less than almost 1,000 feet. The Macau Tower is supposed to be a copy of the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand, but, since I’ve never seen the Sky Tower in Auckland, I have to say it looks like the Stratosphere Casino in Las Vegas.

Macau Tour Guide

This is Ian, our Macau tourist guide. She was a perky young lady who gave tours in English and Mandarin. I thought that was quite an accomplishment. She must have liked Chinese better because she laughed a lot when she spoke Mandarin and didn’t laugh a lot when she seemed to say the same thing in English.

The church facade in the background is what is left of the Church of St. Paul. The church was, at one time, the largest church in Asia. It was built in the 17th century by the Jesuits. The church is considered to be the most visited tourist attraction in Macau. Outside of the gambling casinos, of course.

Ferry to Macau

This is the ferry that I took for a day trip to Macau. Macau is a gambling Mecca in China. Actually, it’s the only place that a person can gamble in China, at least legally. I took a day trip to Macau to see the sights of the city and to be able to say that I’ve been there. The boat ride over and back cost me about $30, which I believe translates into $15 each way. The ferry too one hour to make the 16 mile trip.
