Gabriel was our driver and guide on our 3 day trip to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. He was excellent. I learned a lot from him. Africa really is a different place than the U.S. Things are the same in so many ways, yet different in so many others. He seemed to be something of an authority on the Masai people and their culture. I’m sure he wasn’t, but compared to what I knew about them, he was to me. He was also excellent with his identification of mammal and bird species. He challenged me to be able to rattle off 20 species of mammals and 25 species of birds at the end of the trip. Luckily for me, he forgot to ask me about them when the trip ended.

Lion in Acacia Tree Serengeti Africa
This was another one of the things we were looking for – a lion in a tee. I did not get as good a shot of this one as I would have liked. If you can’t see the lion, you’ll just have to take my word that it is there. Remember… some of the group must have taken 100 shots of this lion. Click. Click. Click. Click. I’m sure they got some really great shots. I have witnesses and proof that I saw a lion in a tree..

Wildebeasts Zebras – Serengeti Africa
It was wildebeest and zebras as far as the eye could see in all directions and we had to drive through them. It wasn’t like there were miles and miles of them. Our guide said that tends to come during the month of October. But there were enough to impress me. I’ve never seen so many wild animals in one place in all of my life. Yeah, I’ve seen some big feed lots, but these animals were wild and they were free to move hundreds and hundreds of miles a year in their search for water. Our guide said that it was the zebras that were better at finding water and they tended to lead the wildebeests. Fine with me. I thought the whole wild animal thing was just too cool. After seeing all these animals in the wild, the zoo will never be the same again.
Guides Serengeti Africa
Everyone needs a break, right? These were the three guys who drove the trucks that took us from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti and back. They did good work.
