This is the kind of scene that makes Venice so very special in my mind. Who knows how old this street is and how many people it has seen over the years. The lifestyle in Venice is much like it was 500 or even a thousand years ago. Sure, they have electricity and electrical devices and hot and cold running water and plumbing and gasoline engines to move them around the city. But, outside of that, life is pretty much like it was 500 years ago in the city. 11/2005

I love going to Venice. I’ve spent a lot of time there. It may be the most unique city in the whole world. The thing I like best about it is that there are no cars in the city. If you want to go somewhere, you walk or catch a boat. Life is really different under those conditions. Life can also be reasonably inexpensive in Venice. They have lots of hostels and if you go in the off-season you can get some good rates. I don’t think Venice ever gets really cold, so it’s not such a problem to go during the winter. I have been there as late as November and it was still temperate. The summer gets a little crowded. 10/2005

I left Istria and headed to Trieste where I caught a train for Venice. I spent a couple of more days in the city, taking care to rest up a little I was on my last leg of my journey. That didn’t mean that I couldn’t enjoy a few more sights in the city. This guy was really good at playing glasses filled with differing amounts of water. 11/2005

I wound up paying $7 a night to stay at this IYHF hostel and that included a breakfast that was easily worth the $7. I simply got a really good break and caught the hostel at a good time. The reason I stayed here was that the hostel was right down the street from a bus station that had good connections to London Stansted Airport where I caught my $40 flight from London to Venice, Italy. 10/2005
