Chobe Botswana KFC Africa

Chobe Botswana KFC Africa

There was a KFC at the local shopping center. I think it may have been the only fast food restaurant that I saw on the entire trip so far, excluding Dubai. I didn’t eat there. I have had some experiences at foreign KFC’s that were not encouraging during trips I have taken in the past. However, I was told by some of the people on the trip who did eat there that they not only had original recipe, it tasted just like it does in the states. While I found that reassuring, I did not want to spend $8 on a couple of pieces of chicken to find out if it was true.

What did a large portion of the group do? They got up for a 5:30 AM game drive in the Chobe National Park. It was something I should have done, but I decided that I was going to lay off of game drives for a while. I’m sure it must have been nice. It was a recommended activity, but how many games drives can a person go on in a few days? Was I getting a little jaded?

It’s another boat of tourists. This boat was much smaller than our own. The small boats were quicker and more maneuverable. They got closer to the animals than our boat did. But our boat appeared to be more comfortable. We had much better chairs and we could get up and walk around on deck with no problem. I was glad I had gone on the Chobe River boat ride.

Chobe Botswana Elephants Africa

One thing we saw in large number were elephants. It appeared that the elephants really like the area long the river. It was nice and muddy and had a lot of grass for them to eat. The Chobe National Park is supposed to have one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Africa. There were plenty of them to see and some of the smaller boats got very close to the elephants. Our boat was a just a little too big. I could see where maneuvering it could have been a problem.

It was a nice sunset and I’m a sucker for sunsets. At least I’m a sucker for good sunsets. This one wasn’t bad. The location lent a little mystery to it all. Also, we had seen a lot of African animals. The crocodile came to mind as I watched the sunset. I wondered what their favorite meal was and whether they hunted at night.

Botswana Captain Speaks Africa

There are two things that people recommend doing when you are in Botswana and near the Chobe National Park. The first is to take a river cruise down the Chobe River. In this picture you can see the front part of our boat and the Captain giving a welcome speech to the group on board the boat. It was a rather large boat. We cruised the Chobe River for about three hours. I recommend the cruise and I believe it was probably worth the price, although I’m not aware of the cost as it was included in the price of the overland trip. But, the overland trip that I took had very few inclusions in the cost of the trip so I figured if this was included, it must not have cost much. The cruise was very good. The captain was pretty funny. Plus he was good at letting us know what was going on.

Botswana Iron Brew Africa

I know it’s not a very good picture, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s pretty easy to see that I’m holding up a can of Iron Brew, which is a soft drink. I’d never heard of Iron Brew before I got to Botswana. I may never hear of it or see it again. But, I did get to drink it once. If you want to know what it tastes like I suggest you get yourself a plane ticket to Botswana and find out. I will tell you that it was pretty tasty. It wasn’t tasty enough for me to recommend going all the way to Botswana to get one, but if you happen to be in the neighborhood…
