Ethel and I – Masada

We went to Masada in 1995 while we were on vacation in Israel. Masada is a favorite sight in Israel because it signifies Jewish resistance to the Roman Empire. No one appears to be absolutely sure of what happened at Masada. Legend has it that Jews captured a Roman fortification at the site in 66 AD and held it. After a siege of several years, the Romans built a ramp to assault the fortification. Knowing that the Romans would eventually prevail, the Jews committed mass suicide at the last moment rather than surrender. 1995
