Strategy: Bagan Temples & Pagodas along with Shwedagon Stupa and Popa Taungkalat. Also, in Mandalay, Kuthodaw Pagoda,  Mandalay Palace and the Shwe Nandaw Monastery. Take trains around Myanmar. See seat61. The Wikipedia entry for Shwesandaw Pagoda (Bagan) has a great list of Major Buddhist sites in Myanmar. I have outlined a bunch of sites that were there and confirmed by TripAdvisor on their Bagan Things to Do page. It is recommended that I get an electric bike to tool around Bagan on since there are some 2,000 monuments or so in teh general area. Only one hostel but lots of hotels with dormitories. .
