I stopped by Blue Ribbon Downs while I was in Sallisaw. My wife and I had been there previously to watch horse racing back in the days when the track was open. It was Oklahoma’s oldest racing facility and first pari-mutuel race track when it opened for betting. Today the track is closed. I read that the closing caused some hardships for the community of Sallisaw, especially in terms of tax revenues. I’m always a little sad when communities loose sources that keep them healthy.
