Tuk-Tuks are one of the greatest of the third world treats. Riding them on the cobbleston streets of Antiqua was especially painful, especially since we got to pay about twice what the locals paid.
Spanish Lessons – Antgua, Guatemala
Antiqua, Guatemala is one fo the great places to go and study spanish. They say there are over 100 spanish schools in Antiqua. If I were going somewhere to study spanish, Antiqua is a great choice, epsecially since there are so many English speakers to converse with in the bars at night.
No Paper in Toilet – Antgua, Guatemala
No, you don’t put paper in the paper in the toilet in Antiqua, Gautemala or any other place in Guateamala. Or in Central America. Or any other place in the third world for that matter. Unless, of course, you’re paying over $100 a night for a room.
Hotel – Antgua, Guatemala
It was a lovely little hotel that served a great breakfast and had free wi-fi. The only problem was our room – the door behind Ethel – was right by the courtyard where the younger crowd at the hostel partied until I threatend to kill them all at 4 AM.
Lava Flow – Pacaya Volcano, Guatemala
Yes, it really is a lava flow and yes, we did climb up there after doing a very long hike to get to where I could take this picture. What a grueling walk!
Marshmellowers – Pacaya Volcano, Guatemala
So, OK, how close did we get to the Pacaya Volcano in Guatemala? Well, we got close enough to be official Marshmellowers – those who roast marshmellows on a volcano and no, you couldn’t sit down or take your shoes off while you were doing it.
