Europe 2005 Bled Tourist

Bled, Slovenia can be a day trip from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia or it can be an overnight trip. There are plenty of accommodations in Bled. I took it as a long day trip. While it was only 30 miles from Ljubljana to Bled, I became enchanted with Bled, which I found to be something of a fairy-tale experience. Take it from me, any pictures I have of Bled don’t do it justice. I have seen some pictures on the internet which give a much better presentation of the of just how fascinating the area can be. One problem I had while I was there was that the weather was a bit foggy during my visit. This, however, gave the place something of a mystical aura. I liked Bled. I liked it a lot. It’s a place I’d like to go back to some day. 11/2005

Hostel Celica is housed in what was once a prison in the city. Twenty of the cells have been transformed into comfortable rooms. The hostel is located right down the street from the bus and train station. Unfortuantely for me, they had no empty cells when I arrived. This is one of the most popular hostels in the world. Fotunately for me, Ljubljana has a couple of other hostels. 11/2005

Ljubljana had a nice walking tour that was very inexpensive that toured the city. Ljubljana is a something of a mediaeval city. It has a very large castle that was built in the late 15th century that is located at the summit of the hill that virtually dominates the center of the city . It is said that the area where the castle is situated has been continuously inhabited for over 3,000 years. 11/2005

This is one of the hostels where I stayed in Ljubljana. It was very modern and the only hostel in which I’ve ever stayed that had professional quality badminton courts with galleries for the fans. That’s right – badminton courts. That’s right – with galleries and the galleries had a bar area where the patrons could sit at the bar and watch the matches, if that’s what competitions between badminton players is called. I don’t really know a lot about badminton, mainly because it isn’t considered a very manly sport among most rednecks, even if it is an Olympic sport. 11/2005
