Hotel Experience from Hell – Chiang Mai, Thailand

It was the Hotel Experience From Hell. I checked in. The owner wanted me to pay. I handed him dollars for three nights in a private room. He said no to dollars. I asked where can I get change. He said down the street. For the next couple of hours I wandered around Chiang Mai looking for an open bank or money exchanger. There were none to be had as it was late Sunday evening. I wondered why the owner didn’t know that. It cost me $10 to get the local currency to pay him out of an ATM – what I was trying to avoid. I went back to the hotel and told him about my difficulties and his wife laughed and laughed about it. I laughed right back and told her I thought her momma wore cowboy boots and worked in a Boy’s Town Donkey Show in Tijuana in my most proper English. I think the owner knew enough of my native tongue to know that I had insulted her in front of a dozen or so people. We had a few words about the quality of his establishment and the operational policies of the management team (him) and he told me that if I stayed he would make my life "very unhappy" so I paid for a night (just in case) and went out and found a place that was not so desirable and left the Hotel Experience From Hell. No, I didn’t ask for my money back. I was just glad to be out of the place without the psychotic owners doing something really, really weird.

Rooftop Skyline – Bangkok

There are a whole lot of skyscrapers in Bangkok Thailand. Somewhere on the internet there is a website devoted to skyscrapers that lists the number of large buildings in the major cities of the world. I’ve seen it, I’ve been there and cruised the site and I know I could find it again. Somehow, after this trip I think I’m going to pay it another visit.

Emerald Buddha

It’s the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. I don’t think the Buddha is really made of emerald. But, it is a really nice piece of art. It’s also somewhat priceless and in possession of the King of Thailand.

Man, I like these little shish-kabobs. They come in chicken and pork. I prefer chicken. I’m not so sure I trust the pork products. They cost about between 15 and 25 cents, depending on where they are purchased. I like to find them at 15 cents and buy three or four of them. Boy, are they good.

Jele Light

This was really good stuff. It was jello in a little container and I found it in the 7-11′s. It cost about 15 cents. I consumed it through a straw. They have four flavors that I know of. I highly recommend it.

Buddhas for Sale

As I was taking my bike ride I ran across a store that sold Buddhas. Actually, I ran across a bunch of stores that sold Buddhas and other Buddhist religious materials. I wish I could describe them more fully, but I don’t have a clue what type of stuff they sell in the stores that sell really big Buddhas. Maybe I should learn.

Khao San Road – Bangkok

It’s just a sign that points the way to Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand. So what’s the significance of that? Well, Khao San Road is supposed to be a backpacker ghetto of epic proportions. They come from everywhere, it’s said, to sample the mysteries of Bangkok and Khao San Road and to create an urban legend that will endure forever. What did I find when I went there? I’ll let you go and find out for yourself.
