Amarillo, Texas Tourist Information

amarilloHow many times have I been through Amarillo? Too many. Dozens, actually. How many times have I stopped to take in some of the attractions? Never. How many times have I said that I’m going to stop at the Cadillac Ranch this time through the town? Almost every time. Why don’t I stop? Because it’s a four hour drive from Oklahoma City to Amarillo and another four hours to Albuquerque. Stop in Amarillo? It’s on the Big Road that stretches for hours and hours and I just haven’t taken the time. What looks good in Amarillo? One thing I plan on doing is to stop downtown, get my bicycle out of the car and go for a ride. It’ll be a good break for my posterior. I need an hour ow two of riding. What else might I do? How about Palo Duro Canyon? It looks interesting. It’s supposed to be the second largest canyon in the United States. The call it the Grand Canyon of Texas. That sounds true. What else? The Jack Sisemore Traveland RV Museum appeals to me because I’ve had a few RVs. I can’t think of a more romantic place to live than in an RV. No matter where you go you’re always coming home. I was even a member of the WBCCI at one time. The American Quarter Horse Heritage Center & Museum is listed as another top attraction in Amarillo. This time I also plan to stop at the Big Texan Steak House. No, not to try and eat the 72 ounce steak – which is free if you can eat it all – but to do more than just stop and get a picture. I think I’ll go to their world-famous gift shop. I just wish that I had known that I could get a FREE prime rib or chicken fried steak dinner on my birthday all these years. Look what I’ve missed out on Now after doing all that there’s no way I’m making it to Albuquerque until the next day. That’s why I haven’t stopped in Amarillo.
