Balloon Fiesta 2013

Balloon Fiesta 2013I’m into unique experiences. You might even say that I’m more interested in accumulating experiences than I ever was in accumulating dollars. But I don’t consider myself some sort of experience junkie. I don’t have a desire to skydive, bungee jump, deep sea dive, visit the North Pole, find the headwaters of the Amazon, or wander around Borneo in search of shrunken heads. I just like to see new things. Continue reading

My Favorite Loop

New Mexico Tres AmigosThere are places I like to drive. Not so much because I like to be behind a steering wheel, but because of the scenery. I like driving around New England in the fall because of the foliage.  I like the road from Rome to Amalfi. I like the drive from LA to San Francisco up the California Coast. There are others. But my favorite drive is the loop from Taos to Questa to Red River to Eagles Nest and back to Taos. Continue reading

Tom’s Back Yard

Me and TomTom's BackyardOkay, I admit it. It’s not much of a yard in terms of grass. But, it’s a great place to hang out and that’s what Tom wanted to do – hang out with all of his friends. Tom’s gone. But, his legacy lives on in his backyard where we all like to gather. Sometimes, I just go out and sit and listen to the fountain. Sometimes I lay in the hammock. Other times I go out and rake leaves or sweep. It’s a good place to park my bicycle. There’s lots of vegetation to help me feel at ease. There’s a grill if I want to cook. There are lights if I want to go out at night. I can turn them off if I want to sit in the dark. Almost 50 years later, He’s still with me in spirit. Our friend John, who lives there now, left the house like he had it. It’s still one of the nicest backyards I know.

Road Trip 2013 – Saguaro National Park

Cactus - SNPSometimes, I’m amazed. I was looking for a picture of a cactus I could use and I found this one. It’s a shot by Colin Stouffer, a National Geographic photographer. of a section of the Saguaro National Park in Arizona. The article is located here. I consider the photo amazing. It seems that the photo is, in and of itself, just as amazing as I imagine the park to be. Continue reading

Road Trip 2013 – Sequoia National Park

General Sherman TreeThis is a tree. Okay, it’s not just any tree. This tree is in the Sequoia National Park and according to Wikipedia the “park is famous for its giant sequoia trees, including the General Sherman tree, one of the largest trees on Earth. The General Sherman tree grows in the Giant Forest, which contains five out of the ten largest trees in the world.” This picture is of the General Sherman. It’s supposed to be the largest living thing in the world. Or close, anyway. That impresses me. Will I get to see it this summer? I hope so. Then again, all I have to do is to put it on my “must see” list. As long as this list doesn’t get so large that I’m not able to see anything, what’s the problem? Continue reading
